Tiny Ache

from Little Creep by Sneaky Mister

/

about

Written in 2014 while attending a gender and sexuality workshop. One evening we sat in a circle on the floor and shared our stories of being violated. It was simultaneously affirming and isolating.

The spoken instructions are alarms I created for myself during a period when I had a hard time getting out of bed and facing the day.

The record skipping harp sample is from Joanna Newsom's "Bridges and Balloons."

The choral samples at the end are from a participatory performance piece I used to do called "Collective Song."

lyrics

That tiny ache
Blooms, swells, slows, fades
My hands curl into balls
Unfurl again and fall

Let me fall
Let me fall
I won't bother you
Your heart hurts too

Touch hands to face
Bloom, swell, slow, fade
I'll believe what you want me to
I do, I do, I do

Let me fall
Let me fall
I won't bother you
Your heart hurts too
